Class took a lot of twists and turns this week, and didn’t always follow the lesson plan, but we made some great art and had a great time!
Check it out below!
At one point, we decided to Gesso more canvasses for future use. Multiple students came to join us. We called it a Gesso party.
I believe the students found engagement in Gessoing canvas for two reasons. The act of painting gesso is very methodical, painting back and forth, simply “doing.” Which is a very important part of praxis.
The second reason I believe has to do with instant gratification, with simply a few strokes the previous image is erased, and the magic white surface that is the students’ goal is instantly achieved.
Ashley’s recurrent flower painting’s and drawings represent the schematic stage in Lowelfeld’s stages of artistic development. In these drawings and paintings she has developed a form and concept, her flowers. Her drawings represent and are descriptive of her environment. By repetition she has developed this favorite schema.
